News Centre

  • The centre of Coventry is on the up because of a revitalised evening economy.

  • Coventry might be famous for its strength in advanced manufacturing, but fewer people know that the gaming sector is strong in the city region surrounding it. All in all, the signs are there of a place on the up.

  • Coventry has a long tradition of manufacturing, and the city has managed to sustain this with the help of local universities. Coventry University features the Centre for Manufacturing and Materials Engineering, while the University of Warwick includes the Warwick Manufacturing Group. Collaborative activity between researchers and industry has reaped rewards.

  • An ongoing multimillion pound initiative is set to transform the city centre of Coventry, with an old car park situated in Belgrade Plaza now being converted into a student accommodation site.

  • Developer Unite Students has invested almost 25 million in a site near the middle of Coventry.

  • A Coventry-based tool making firm called Marrill is taking on more staff.

  • Coventry University received the accolade of University of the Year at a recent event in a successful 2015.

  • While the manufacturing base of some UK cities has been hollowed out in recent decades, the truth is that manufacturing still contributes quite a lot to British exports. It is also of note in terms of job creation. Further, there is the hope that policy can boost manufacturing performance in the future.

  • The chamber of commerce for Coventry and Warwickshire got Dr Sharon Redrobe of Twycross Zoo to be one of several major speakers this year.

  • This year, Jaguar Land Rover has made a big commitment to Coventry. It has bought over 60 acres of land in the area, and revealed plans of how it wants to progress. It intends to invest at least 400m, some of which will be spent on making an international headquarters, while the eventual return of car manufacture is possible.
